Online Therapy: AL, PA, TX, GA, FL, and NV

Welcome to Online Therapy: Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Nevada, Florida, and Pennsylvania

Most people picture anxiety as panic. But for a lot of adults, anxiety doesn't look like panic at all. It looks like being extremely reliable.

You're never late. You reread the email four times before sending it. You've already thought through what could go wrong on Thursday, and the backup plan, and the backup to the backup. Everyone thinks of you as someone who has it together.

They're not wrong, exactly. They just don't know what it costs.

I'm Jennifer, a Licensed Professional Counselor at Cornerstone Counseling and Evaluation, LLC. I provide online anxiety therapy for adults in Alabama, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, and Texas.

You've been running your nervous system at full throttle for years. Let's talk about what it would take to turn it down.

What Anxiety Actually Looks Like Day to Day

Textbook descriptions miss most of it. Here's how anxiety tends to show up in real life.

In your body

  • Jaw clenched, shoulders somewhere near your ears, and you only notice when someone points it out
  • Waking at 3 a.m. with your brain already mid-sentence
  • Falling asleep is the problem — you're exhausted but wired the moment your head hits the pillow
  • Stomach issues, nausea, or the need to know where the bathroom is
  • Chest tightness, a racing heart, or shallow breathing for no clear reason
  • Grinding your teeth. Your dentist has mentioned it.
  • Getting sick every single time a big project finally ends

In your head

  • Rehearsing conversations that haven't happened yet
  • Replaying a conversation from 2019 at full volume
  • Rereading a text you sent to check the tone
  • Jumping straight to the worst-case scenario, then planning for it in detail
  • A short "hey, do you have a minute?" from your boss ruins your entire afternoon
  • Deciding between two restaurants takes more effort than it should

In how you behave

  • Overpreparing for things that don't require it
  • Procrastinating on the thing you're most anxious about, then panicking about the delay
  • Saying yes when you have absolutely no capacity to say yes
  • Checking, rechecking, and checking again
  • Overexplaining, over-apologizing, adding three qualifiers to a simple sentence
  • Staying busy specifically so you don't have to sit still

With other people

  • Reading tone into every message and assuming the worst version
  • Apologizing for things that aren't yours to apologize for
  • Avoiding conflict so thoroughly that resentment builds instead
  • Scanning the room to figure out how everyone's feeling before you decide how you're feeling
  • Being sure people are irritated with you, with no evidence

And sometimes

  • Panic attacks that come out of nowhere and convince you something is medically wrong
  • A background hum of dread that never quite resolves, even when things are going well

If you recognized yourself several times in that list, take it seriously.

When Anxiety Is the Engine of Your Success

Here's the part that makes anxiety so hard to give up: it works.

The vigilance made you thorough. The fear of dropping the ball made you the person who never drops it. The dread got you promoted. On some level you believe that if you stop being anxious, you'll stop being competent — that the worry is the only thing standing between you and everything falling apart.

I want to be honest with you: that belief is the hardest part of this work. It's also not true. Anxiety is an expensive engine, and it's running on your sleep, your health, your relationships, and your ability to enjoy anything you've accomplished. Plenty of people learn that they can be just as capable without it, and considerably less miserable.

The goal isn't to make you careless. It's to give you a version of high standards that doesn't require you to be afraid all the time.

How Therapy for Anxiety Works

Anxiety is one of the most treatable things I see. What we do together depends on you, but it usually includes some combination of:

Figuring out what it's protecting you from. Anxiety is almost always doing a job. Once you can see what it's guarding against — rejection, failure, a repeat of something that already happened once — it stops feeling random and starts making sense.

Working with your body, not just your thoughts. A nervous system stuck in high alert doesn't respond to being reasoned with. Some of this work is physiological, and it's learnable.

Getting underneath the worst-case thinking. Not just talking yourself out of it, which you've already tried. Actually examining the belief underneath: what you think will happen if you ease up, and whether that's true.

Practicing tolerating uncertainty. Most anxiety is an attempt to make the future predictable. It can't be. Building your capacity to sit with not knowing changes almost everything.

Coordinating with your doctor if you want it. I don't prescribe. If medication is something you're considering, I can provide documentation to your physician at your request so that conversation starts from real information.

What Often Shows Up Alongside Anxiety

Depression. These two travel together constantly. Many people describe feeling wired and exhausted at the same time.

Perfectionism. When the standard is flawless, anxiety is the natural byproduct.

People-pleasing. Anxiety about other people's reactions turns into a life organized around managing them.

Health anxiety. Physical symptoms cause worry, worry produces more physical symptoms, and the loop feeds itself.

Online Anxiety Therapy

I'm licensed to work with clients in Alabama, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia,  and Texas. Sessions are held securely online, which many anxious clients find lowers the barrier considerably — no new building to navigate, no waiting room, no wondering where to park.

Online sessions provide:

  • No commute and no waiting room
  • Flexibility for demanding schedules
  • Privacy and discretion
  • Consistency even during travel or schedule changes
  • The comfort of your own space for hard conversations

Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety Therapy

How do I know if it's anxiety or just stress?Stress typically has an identifiable source and eases when the source resolves. Anxiety tends to persist beyond the circumstances, attaches to new worries once an old one is resolved, and shows up physically through sleep problems, muscle tension, and digestive issues. When worry is difficult to control and interferes with daily functioning over a period of months, it's worth having evaluated.

What is high-functioning anxiety?High-functioning anxiety isn't a formal diagnosis, but it describes a very real experience: meeting all your obligations, often at a high level, while managing constant internal worry that nobody else can see. Because the outward results look like success, it frequently goes unrecognized and untreated for years.

Can therapy help if anxiety is what makes me good at my job?Yes, and this concern comes up constantly. Therapy for anxiety isn't about lowering your standards or making you careless. It's about separating your competence from your fear, so you can keep the first without needing the second to drive it.

Do I need medication for anxiety? Not necessarily. Therapy alone is effective for many people with anxiety, and some do best with therapy and medication together. As a Licensed Professional Counselor I do not prescribe, but I can coordinate with your physician or prescriber at your request.

Does online therapy work for anxiety?Yes. Research consistently finds online therapy comparable in effectiveness to in-person treatment for anxiety disorders, and many clients find remote sessions easier to attend consistently.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help? That's common, and it doesn't mean therapy can't work for you. Fit, timing, and approach matter a great deal. Tell me what didn't work last time so we don't repeat it.

A Note on Panic Attacks and Physical Symptoms

Panic attacks can produce chest pain, a racing heart, and shortness of breath that feel genuinely alarming. Anxiety can cause real physical symptoms — and it can also resemble medical conditions that need attention.

If you're having chest pain or trouble breathing and you don't know the cause, treat it as a medical emergency and get evaluated. Please also see your physician to rule out thyroid problems, cardiac issues, and other medical causes before assuming symptoms are anxiety. Good care means not skipping that step.

If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

You've been bracing for a long time. It's allowed to be easier than this.
